Eight Ways to Green Your Business District

The City of Los Angeles recently put up a new section on the LA Business Solutions website called "Eight Ways to Green Your Business District."(http://business.lacity.org/green_business.htm)

Some of the business owners in our area may be interested in these programs, including tree planting, outdoor lighting, bike racks, etc!

The LA Business Solutions website also provides one-stop access to permits, business guides, incentives, etc.

Million Trees Program

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has launched this program to help create more shade in Los Angeles. The plan is to plant one million trees over the next three years.

The websites below provide important resources on what to plant, where to plant and even how to receive free shade trees for your yard or community.

Composting

The City offers subsidized composting bins and workshops so people can start composting their yard clippings and kitchen scraps. The enriched soil is a natural fertilizer for plants. The program’s hope is to cut down on chemical fertilizers that can be harmful to pets, humans and ground water as well as to cut down on waste.

The County of Los Angeles also offers this service.

Mulch

The City also offers mulch made from our yard clippings. The best part, it’s free! Just bring a shovel and a way to haul it.
