And the Winner Is...

Thank you to everyone who voted on naming our unique neighborhood, and especially to those who wrote comments about why they supported a particular name.

Our online poll was active for a month, and more than 400 community members voted. And the clear winner is...

Melrose Village

Here are some of the reasons that people gave for supporting Melrose Village as the name for our neighborhood:

“I like ‘Melrose Village’ because this area reminds me and many other people of the Village in New York City - with the same active, fun, pedestrian-oriented environment.”

“Every time the wife and I are in NYC in the Village we always comment on how it reminds us of our area back home.”

“I like the Melrose Village concept - Reminds me of NY. The fact that we are creating a name to describe our neighborhood is a great concept and has been done by many cities to create a identity beyond ‘I LIVE IN LA OFF MELROSE’ or ‘I LIVE IN THE MELROSE AREA’ - I would rather live in a village then an area.”

“What a nice thing to do as a community. I voted for ‘Melrose Village’ which has a warm community feel to it.”

“I agree that the Melrose area definitely needs some ‘branding’ and the best way to do that is by coming up with an identifiable name. I'm partial to either Melrose Village or Melrose District to identify the neighborhood.”

Melrose Action will begin circulating the petition and paperwork required to complete the process and submit it to the City of Los Angeles.
