Full House At Blu Jam Cafe As Over 60 Melrose Village Neighbors Meet with Council Member Paul Koretz
At the January 6, 2010 Melrose Action Neighborhood Watch meeting over Sixty Melrose Village residents and business owners crowded into Blu Jam Cafe on to hear from our Los Angeles City Council Member Paul Koretz. Paul spoke and answered questions for nearly an hour. He talked extensively about neighborhood issues, including the proliferation of marijuana storefronts, the appearance of sober living houses, permit parking, the city budget crisis, the increase in graffiti, the need for improvements along Melrose Avenue, and the importance of public safety.
On a lighter note, Melrose Action Neighborhood Watch surprised LAPD Wilshire Division Captain and Commander Eric Davis with a cake to celebrate his recent birthday.
Koretz then bestowed city commendations on Captain Davis and on Kamil Majer, owner of Blu Jam Cafe.
Following the presentations we heard reports on crime from our LAPD Senior Lead Officer Art Gallegos who just returned from his vacation and from Captain William Hart of Wilshire Division. Officer Gallegos reported that there were very few crimes in our area during the preceding week.
Also present was our L.A. City Attorney Neighborhood Prosecutor Capri Maddox who spoke about addressing nuisance problems in the neighborhood, such as derelict storefronts.
